Carp Fishing Gear

The rod

Some fishers buy a series of 4 rods and some beginners start with just one. You will need a rod with 3lb test curve and upwards. These rods are not designed to fish at a close range or in the margins.

Rods in these range cast well over 100 yards. This rods are suitable for carp fishing because the biggest carps concentrate in the middle of rivers or seas.

The rod is the most important part of your gear. If you are on a budget, go for a good second hand rod or spend the main part of your fund into a good rod.

Lines and hooks

These are the second most important part of you gear. Choose a quality line, designed to fish carps and similar fishes. For hooks, choose also a specially developed model to fish carps. The choice is huge.

You'll need dozen hooks and a couple of lines for each rod. Having hooks and lines for replacing a broken line or lost hook is essential for your fun.

Reel

The reels are the third most important part of your gear. Choose a reel with a free spool system. This system lets you set the tension at a set level or press a clutch and let the reel spin. This is essential to fish carp, since carp tend to fight for their life.

Pods

If you go for a set of rods, you'll also need pods for these. Rod pods should be stable and easy to set up. Their are suitable for any kind of ground, expect for banks of stone.

Bite alarms

A bite alarm of buzzer is just a nice extra. You can go for any model of bite alarms. Normally, even the cheaper will perform quite well.

If you are a beginner, you won't need it either. You'll see when you have catched a carp, there are several indicator that will tell you. For short sessions there is no need for one.

This piece of gear is interesting for long session, overnight during camping, for example. You can set your rod and let it 'fishing' while you sleep. The bite alarm will wake you up if necessary.

Additionally, you'll also need lead, floats and bait for a round-up exciting fishing experience.

All these tackle and gear can also be bought from carp fishing tackle shop as well from the internet.
